Les Turcs Misérables

The song, Do You Hear The People Sing, has been playing over & over again in my head for the past week. I'm sure it's because of the various images across the internet & social media of people waving Turkish flags against the silhouette of tear gas, fire, and/or barricade backdrops. I realize it might be a bit cliché, but the lyrics feel beyond apropos for what's happening in Turkey that I thought I'd share.

UPDATED 6/13/13: VIDEO THAT'S GOING VIRAL - ÇAPULCU CHORUS SINGING AN ENGLISH-TURKISH VERSION OF THE SONG UPDATED TO REFLECT THE OCCUPY TURKEY MOVEMENT

Had previously added a video of actors who played Valjean in 17 different countries singing the song - felt the most fitting for the worldwide solidarity message I keep asking for.

Do you hear the people sing-
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums.
There is a life about to start when tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade,
Who will be strong & stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Then join in the fight that will give you the right to be free!

Do you hear the people sing-
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums.
There is a life about to start when tomorrow comes!

Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance?
Some will fail & some will live-
Will you stand up & take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs will water the meadows of France!

Do you hear the people sing-
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums.
There is a life about to start when tomorrow comes!
